American Airlines Group Inc. plans to invest $25 million in UK-based electric aircraft startup Vertical Aerospace Group Ltd.
American Airlines is looking to purchase nearly as many as 250 of Vertical’s flying taxis with an option for an additional 100
American said that the air taxis will hold up to four passengers plus a pilot and will travel at a speed of up to 200 miles per hour. These air taxis are electric and take off and land like a helicopter
Vertical Aerospace has scheduled its first test flight later this year. Vertical Aerospace further stated that it would begin its commercial operation in 2024, once the European regulators give them the green signal
American Airlines officials said its order is depending on the aircraft’s authorization by regulators and in reaching other landmarks.
Vertical Aerospace has engrossed other large investors, including Microsoft, Rolls-Royce, and Honeywell International. Vertical Aerospace believes that the partnership with Microsoft, Rolls-Royce, and Honeywell International and others, will allow it to swiftly secure the same level of certification as large commercial airlines from the EASA
